Topics

I made up the following topic list from suggestion by Gordon Farrell, Ingo van Thiel and Falko Löffler. Thanks to them!

"Free Thread" - here you can post all topics, comments and questions that do not fit to the topics in the list below.

  1. Hardcore players versus casual players - for whom do we design our games?

  2. Which scenario is appropriate for which game?

  3. What is an appropriate / satisfying level of difficulty? And how can one measure "difficulty"?

  4. How to control the difficulty?
    a.) Limits (time, resources, units)
    b.) positioning enemies
c.) AI and Scripted Sequences (this include the former topic 6 "Artificial Intelligence and Scripted Sequences - making the game living")

  5. Build and Destroy versus Fixed Forces
    - how much freedom does the player need? And what to take care of?

  6. Ways to keep the player glued to the game:
    a.) heroes
    b.) role playing elements
c.) story (Why, how and when to use cut scenes? | The usage of speech and language in games)
